4 BEST Hotels on Oahu’s North Shore: Walkable to Beaches
With seven miles of golden sand beaches, some of the world’s most iconic surf breaks, and an abundance of food trucks, Oahu’s North Shore is my favorite area to stay on the island after 10+ trips to Hawaii!
But if you’re trying to book a hotel on the North Shore, you’ll quickly realize that the options are extremely limited. So, in this article I’m comparing my favorites North Shore hotels, B&Bs, hostels, and other places to stay—the luxurious Turtle Bay Resort, the budget surfer hostel and everything in between.

1. Turtle Bay Resort by Ritz Carlton

Turtle Bay Resort is the place to stay on the North Shore of Oahu… if it’s in your budget! Tucked up against the calm turquoise Turtle Bay (known for sea turtles!), it’s the only resort on the entire North Shore, with a soft sandy beach and easy snorkeling just outside your door.
You may recognize the property from a handful of movies like The Hunger Games, Blue Crush, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Forgetting Sarah Marshall. In addition to Turtle Bay, there are seven different beaches within walking distance, plus four pools, six restaurants and bars, a beautiful spa, golf course, tennis/pickleball courts, and so much more.

Just steps from my FAVORITE (yet lesser known) beach on Oahu’s North Shore, Owen’s Retreat has these adorable colorful bungalows overlooking the serene waves. There’s a studio, one bedroom, two bedroom, and four bedroom bungalow, each equipped with a kitchen.
Owen’s Retreat feels secluded but is only 15 minutes from the heart of the North Shore (Haleiwa town). You’re also close to Kaʻena Point State Park which is where you can hike along the ocean to northwest most point of Oahu—and see Hawaiian monk seals along the way!

3. Courtyard by Marriott Oahu North Shore

The Courtyard by Marriott in Laie is a more affordable place to stay close to the North Shore—but a little further away from Haleiwa. That said, it’s one of the only hotels on this part of the island and by far the most affordable in the area, and just steps from gorgeous ‘Ōnini Beach and the popular Polynesian Cultural Center.
The hotel features an outdoor pool, clean and spacious rooms, and friendly staff who will happily tell you about all their favorite things to do in Laie and around the North Shore area.

4. Backpackers Haleiwa

Backpackers hostel is located across from the beach, right between the famous Waimea Bay (home to one of the world’s top surf competitions) and Shark’s Cove (my favorite North Shore snorkel spot!) And the adorable yellow Sunrise Shack is just down the street—where you can order some exceptional acai bowls, coffee, and avocado toast.
With dorm beds starting at $42 and being walking distance from beaches, snorkeling, food trucks, and the Foodland grocery store, Backpackers is honestly an incredible place to stay for budget travelers!
