After traveling to Mexico City five times, I thought it was finally time to share a full guide to the best Mexico City vegan restaurants and vegan-friendly spots.
Although I’ve spent extensive time in Mexico City, I haven’t had the chance to try every single vegan spot.
That’s why I partnered with Anna of annathingbutanimals to create this Mexico City vegan guide.
Anna has lived in Mexico City and hosts vegan group trips to CDMX.
Together, we carefully curated this guide to the best vegan restaurants in Mexico City, based on personal experience and Anna’s deep relationships with local vegan business owners.

Vegan Restaurants in Mexico City
Mexico City has dozens of fully-vegan restaurants, plus endless vegan-friendly eateries. The only downside to coming to Mexico City as a vegan is that you almost certainly won’t be able to make it to every single vegan restaurant.
Whether you’re on a mission to try all the vegan street food stalls and vegan taco carts in Mexico City, or you’re hoping to mix in some international food and wholesome plant-forward dishes in with your vegan junk food, you will find what you’re looking for here!
Let’s explore the best Mexico City vegan restaurants, by neighborhood.

Sopa Azteca at Fresh & Co. in Mexico City

Paxil vegan taco stand in Roma Norte
Roma Norte & Roma Sur
With tree-lined streets and charming art deco architecture, La Roma is home to the majority of Mexico City’s vegan restaurants. Be sure to check out my Roma Norte guide as you explore this vibrant part of Mexico City.
The best vegan restaurants in Roma, Mexico City:
1. Gracias Madre Taquería Vegana
$ | Street Tacos | 100% Vegan | Location
Gracias Madre makes my husband’s favorite tacos in Mexico, after trying dozens of vegan tacos across the country.
Tacos are $30 pesos each, with all the classic Mexican tacos made sin carne (without meat) and stuffed with flavorful soy meat, seitan, beans, tofu, and other substitutes.
Every taco can be made into a gringa (similar to a quesadilla), volcano (almost a mix between a quesadilla and a tostada), or quesadilla.
2. Machu
$$-$$$ | Fine Dining | 100% Vegan | Location
Machu is the perfect spot to dine on a special occasion—and yes, visiting Mexico City for the first time is a special occasion!
Nestled in a gorgeous 100-year-old building, Machu has an incredible atmosphere and even better food.
Eat from Machu’s menu features decadent plant-forward dishes with diverse ingredients and delicious cocktails.
3. Paxil Plant-Based Seafood
$ | Vegan Seafood Tacos | 100% Vegan | Location
I do not like fishy flavors, but Paxil, a plant-based seafood stand just might have my favorite vegan food in Mexico City.
Each of their nine tacos and tostadas are completely unique—from the amaranth-breaded avocado on the Paxil taco (my favorite) to the deep-fried portobello and oyster mushroom “Fish” tacos.
For folks like me who prefer veggies over meat substitutes, Paxil is the place to go! While most Mexico City taco stands feature soy and seitan meat, Paxil’s tacos are pleasantly plant-forward and flavor-packed.
4. Forever
$$ | Classic Vegan Restaurant | 100% Vegan | Location
Forever (also called Forever Vegano) is a staple in the Mexico City vegan food scene.
This brightly-decorated restaurant has a diverse menu and relaxed vibe.
Whether you’re in the mood for vegan spins on classic Mexican breakfast fare, a vegan burger, indulgent pasta, veggie-packed salad, or something else, Forever has something for you.
5. Plantasia
$$ | Brunch, Sushi, and Asian Fare | 100% Vegan | Location
Who would have thought that sushi, pan-asian fare, classic brunch staples, and botanical mocktails would all go together?
Somehow, Plantasia perfectly brings together these different cuisines. Although it’s located inside, the sheer amount of towering tropical plants makes it feel like you’re in a garden and reminds me of cafes in Tulum.
If you’re craving sushi, Pad Thai, and Miso soup, or are looking for a serene brunch spot, Plantasia will do the trick!
6. Por Siempre Vegana II
$ | Vegan Street Tacos | 100% Vegan | Location
Por Siempre Vegana Taqueria is easily the most famous vegan restaurant in Mexico City.
Tacos start at $15 pesos and there are around 15 to choose from. Por Siempre Vegana also serves yummy vegan baked goods for dessert.
The cheapest and most popular tacos are the Tacos al Pastor. My recommendation is to order at least a few different tacos to try.
7. La Pitahaya Vegana
$$ | Instagrammable Colorful Mexican Cuisine | 100% Vegan | Location
La Pitahaya Vegana is another one of the most well-known Mexico City vegan restaurants.
The restaurant’s popularity is no surprise given their bright-pink tortillas and other colorful takes on vegan Mexican food.
This popular spot is a fun place to introduce non-vegans to vegan food, and it’s a great place to try vegan mole in Mexico City.
8. María Bonita Vegan
$ | Vegan Food Stand | 100% Vegan | Location
María Bonita Vegan is another vegan food stand in the Roma neighborhood.
María Bonita’s menu rotates, generally featuring a variety of tacos, tortas (Mexican sandwiches), burgers, and more.
It’s a great place to grab a filling torta to bring on a day trip or flight.
9. Gatorta
$ | Vegan Taco Stand | 100% Vegan | Location
Just a block from the Juárez neighborhood and Glorieta de los Insurgentes, Gatorta is an unassuming street stand with delicious vegan tacos.
Each taco is stuffed full with flavorful vegan meat (typically soy-based).
After your tacos are ready, you have the chance to top them with a diversity of homemade salsas and fresh lime juice.
10. Fresh & Co.
$ | Plant-Forward Traditional Mexican | Vegetarian | Location
Fresh & Co. is my go-to spot whenever I have a layover in Mexico City and need to fuel up with flavorful and healthy food.
My favorites include their Sopa Azteca, which is a tortilla soup with a rich tomato broth, and augachile, a vegan take on a typical Mexican seafood dish with a tangy lime green sauce over oyster mushrooms.
Please note that while most of the menu is vegan, Fresh & Co. is a vegetarian restaurant. Be sure to double check that your order is vegan!
11. DoppioZero Pizza Romana
$-$$ | Italian Pizza Joint | Vegan Options | Location
Although it is not a fully vegan restaurant, DoppioZero has some of the best vegan pizza I’ve ever tasted.
Their vegan pizza features a creamy vegan cheese and a variety of fresh vegetables, like mushrooms, potatoes, sun-dried tomatoes, and squash blossoms. Top with chili oil for perfection.
Grab a pre-made vegan slice to go for $40 pesos, or sit down and order a custom vegan pizza, vegan lasanga, cappelletti stuffed with vegan cheese and spinach, or porcini mushroom rigatoni.
12. Páramo
$-$$ | Upscale Taco & Cocktails | Vegan Options | Location
If you’re looking for a trendy place to go with a mixed group of vegans and non-vegans, check out Páramo.

18. Los Loosers
$$ | Mexican Asian Fusion with Mushrooms | 100% Vegan | Location
Los Loosers is an interesting vegan spot that centers its menu around mushrooms.
The owner created Los Loosers in 2011. Each unique dish draws from her childhood growing up in Mexico’s food capital, Oaxaca, and her love for Asian food.
Choose from a mushroom consumè (traditional soup), al pastor gyoza with wild mushrooms, black mole, and much more.
19. U.to.pi.a Vegan Food and Bar
$$ | Traditional Mexican, Pizza, and More | 100% Vegan | Location
U.to.pi.a is one of those vegan restaurants with a little bit of everything on the menu.
Some go there for their vegan pizza, others just for their traditional Mexican cuisine.
My recommendation is to check out U.to.pi.a’s empanadas (stuffed savory pastry) and pambazos (chili sauce-covered fried sandwich).
